Former Hobbit Elijah Wood is to star as Iggy Pop in “The Passenger,” a biopic of the legendary rocker.

Pic is to be exec produced by Ted Hope’s This Is That Prods. and Traction Media, and repped in international territories by Oz-U.K. sales firm Becker Intl., which in Cannes is handling Directors Fortnight title “Control,” about Brit band Joy Division. Traction Media will handle rights in North America.

“Passenger,” which follows Pop’s early years with his band the Stooges, is to be helmed by Nick Gomez (”Drowning Mona”) from a script by Eric Schmid.

Pic will lense in next six months and is skedded for delivery by midsummer 2008. The $6 million-$8 million budget is being put together from a combination of pre-sales, a U.S. equity fund and tax credits from Philadelphia.

The former wife of Baywatch star David Hasselhoff has spoken out for the first time since the release of his drunken video, which showed the shirtless actor slurring his words and struggling to eat a hamburger.

The footage, which was shot by the couple’s daughter Taylor-Ann, 17, was just a small glimpse at his long term struggle, according to his ex wife Pamela Bach.

She told Us Weekly: “He has been to the emergency room at least 12 to 13 times at Cedars-Sinai - under aliases - for alcohol poisoning. He’s been through three rehabs - in 2001, 2002, and 2004.” Hasselhoff’s lawyer Melvin Goldsman denied both claims.

The couple were married for 16 years before divorcing in July of 2006 because of Hasselhoff’s problems with alcohol.

Paris Hilton is in big trouble, if the Los Angeles City Attorney has his way. TMZ has obtained documents filed with the court, in which prosecutors say they want Hilton to spend 45 days in jail.

Paris must appear tomorrow on a probation violation, for allegedly driving on a suspended license Hilton was already on probation after pleading no contest last January to alcohol-related reckless driving. The DMV had suspended Hilton's license as a result of her DUI bust.

While her license was suspended, Hilton was stopped by the CHP last January 15, and again by the L.A. County Sheriffs on February 27.

Then she would have to wear the same outfitt over and over. Oh the horror. So far 95% of people polled at TMZ say she should serve jail time. [icydk]

Britney Spears' fifteen-minute long "running through the motions" show at the House of Blues in Anaheim on Wednesday night was received even worse than her first comeback non-concert the night before in San Diego.

TMZ has learned that Kim Kardashian has dropped her lawsuit against Vivid Entertainment over the release of her sex tape with former BF, R&B artist Ray J ... who has now moved on to Whitney Houston.

The tape, which Vivid paid a million dollars for, is now a bestseller in adult video stores and online markets. Vivid's co-chairman tells TMZ, "We are pleased that Kim has dropped her legal action against us, we met with her several times and finally reached a financial arrangement that we both feel is fair." Sounds like they're bosom buddies now.

According to UsMagazine.com Kardashian will receive close to $5 million in the settlement.

We hit Perez Hilton with a multi-million million dollar copyright lawsuit yesterday. Five celebrity photo agencies - Splash, Bauer-Griffin, Flynet, INF and London Entertainment Pictures warned Perez last December that we could no longer accept his unlawful use of copyright pictures without payment or credit.
He and his lawyers have refused to pay up and refused to take down unlawfully obtained photos. They don't even have the decency to respond. Most bloggers out there are decent, honest business people who understand the photographers need to earn an income and we thank all of you who do pay and credit and we are happy to supply you so you can entertain your readers.

But the time has come to show Perez he can no longer get rich off the back of other peoples' work. News reports and some boasting from Perez put his income at over $800,000 a year from advertising revenue and his appearances on TV shows, TV programs etc. He says he gets up to 4 million unique visitors a day. Yet he doesn't pay a cent to anyone whose material he uses to get fame and fortune.

The poor thing's income would take a dent if he actually paid to license the photos he scribbles all over. Hilton is also facing lawsuits by X17 and NBC Universal for stealing their copyrighted material as well. The dudes days are numbered.
Awwww, my publisher pays for our photos which makes me "decent" and "honest". Little do they know. I'll kick your grandma for a dollar! And it sounds like Perez would do it for .50!

Larry, Virgie still at odds

We're told Virgie is trying to block Larry's move to take Dannielynn back to the U. S. of A., unless Larry agrees to share guardianship with her. Virgie also wants sole guardianship if Larry dies while Dannielynn is still a minor.

Virgie's conditions are curious to say the least, especially since we know the Bahamian judge has already said that he would probably allow Larry to take the baby to the U.S., provided he return with Dannielynn for the formal custody hearing on June 9.

Larry and Virgie are due back in court tomorrow and the judge could lay down the law and clear the way for Larry and Dannielynn to take the first jet that smokes out of Nassau.

In spite of Virgie's demands, Larry has allowed her to visit with the baby, but we're told Larry feels like Virgie is trying to act like she's in the middle of a marital custody dispute. This just in -- she's a grandma! [tmz]

TMZ contacted CSS, who said they came up with the song a while back because,"We were really excited about Paris Hilton three years ago, before the sex tape." Ah, the good 'ol days! No Mercy for Francis...

Yesterday, Francis' lawyer begged District Court Judge Richard Smoak to cut his 35-day sentence on federal contempt of court charges to 30. As the lawyer explained, having jail time of over 30 days on his record would change the sentencing guidelines in his federal case should he be convicted on tax evasion charges -- and could tack on up to a year of extra time in a federal penitentiary as a result. Judge Smoak disagreed, and left the sentence at 35 days.

Of course, one year, in the grand scheme of things, might not really matter for Francis, who, TMZ has learned, faces up to 100 years in Florida prison if convicted on all the felony charges he faces in that state. Those charges include use of a underage child in sexual performance and bringing contraband cash and drugs into his most recent home -- a county jail cell. Marshals were directed today by another judge to take custody of Francis the moment he's released from his current sentence on May 15 at 8:15 am.

Looks like Francis could get very used to that cell, even if it's driving him insane. [tmz]

Angelina Jolie has filed a petition in L.A. County Superior Court to change the name of her latest adopted child from Pax Thien Jolie to Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt.

In papers filed April 16 and obtained today by TMZ, Angelina -- the sole adoptive parent of Pax -- is requesting the change so it will reflect the last name of her partner, Brad Pitt, and so it is the same as that of her other three children.

Angelina adopted the three-and-a-half-year-old little boy from an orphanage in Vietnam last March. [tmz]

CBS has canceled Don Imus’ radio show, effective immediately, after uproar over his racist and sexist comments about Rutgers women’s basketball team.

CBS released a statement:

NASSAU (April 10) - DNA tests prove it: Larry Birkhead is the father of Anna Nicole Smith 's million-dollar baby.

"I told you so!" the late Playboy Playmate's former boyfriend said Tuesday upon emerging from a closed court hearing. He added: "My baby's going to be coming home pretty soon." Birkhead, a 34-year-old California photographer, then hugged his rival, Howard K. Stern, who has been caring for baby Dannielynn since Smith's sudden death in February.

The hearing was a pivotal moment in the battle over who gets custody of the girl, who could inherit a fortune from the estate of Smith's late husband, J. Howard Marshall II. Although Birkhead is the father, Stern's name is on the birth certificate. Another custody hearing was scheduled for Friday.

Stern, who was Smith's lawyer and later became her companion, said he wouldn't fight for custody, but a lawyer for Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, indicated she might. The judge scheduled another hearing for Friday in the pink colonial courthouse to discuss who will raise the girl, who could inherit hundreds of millions of dollars.

Stern said he loved the baby despite the DNA results and would support Birkhead.

"I'm obviously very disappointed, but my feelings for Dannielynn have not changed," he said, adding of Birkhead: "I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure he gets sole custody."

Birkhead had been fighting for custody of Dannielynn even before Smith's death.

"Nothing's been determined except parentage and I'm the father," Birkhead said. "It's been a long road and I'm just happy to have this behind me."

A crowd of about 250 people, many of them tourists, cheered from behind police barricades when Birkhead, clutching a piece of paper, announced the DNA test results. The court's DNA expert, Dr. Michael Baird, confirmed it.

"Essentially, he's the biological father," Baird said.

This tropical capital has been transfixed by the Anna Nicole saga since she moved here last year. Smith gave birth to Dannielynn in September, only to see her 20-year-old son Daniel die days later at her bedside from a lethal combination of drugs. Smith died in February at age 39 in Florida.

Many in the crowd took pictures of the impromptu news conference with cameras and cell phones. One man in the crowd wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the handwritten message: "I'm the baby's daddy."

Arthur, who had been estranged from Smith for years, said she wanted to be present in her granddaughter's life, but seemed appeased by the DNA results.

"I'm happy that Dannielynn will know who her real father is," she said.

The baby, whose full name is Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, could inherit millions from Marshall's estate. Smith, a former model, had been fighting the Texas oil tycoon's family over his estimated $500 million fortune since his death in 1995.

To make matters worse (if they could get any worse), none of the medication was explicitly prescribed to Anna Nicole, eight of the medications were issued to Howard K. Stern, two were for Alex Katz (unclear who that is but it could be a possible alias for Smith or Stern), and another drug was under the name of her friend and psychiatrist Dr Khristine Eroshevich.

Records show that 415 pills of carisoprodol (a muscle relaxant), 62 tablets of Valium, 79 tablets of an anti-seizure medication, two-thirds of a bottle the sleeping medication chloral hydrate, prescribed on January 2, was gone, and at least two dozen pills from her stash of diuretics, antibotics, antivirals, and potassium supplements. Mix in the methadone she was taking for pain and the Human Growth Hormone she was taking for weight loss and there are enough drugs to kill Keith Richards, Pete Doherty, Anthony Kiedis and still have enough over to invite Snoop Dogg to the party.

The Broward County Medical Examiner confirmed that none of the 11 drugs that were found in Anna Nicole Smith's hotel room were prescribed to Smith.

Of the 11 drugs, eight were prescribed to Howard K. Stern and one was prescribed to Anna's personal shrink, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich

- A total of three $1,500 monthly charges for Luck Media & Marketing, Opri's personal publicist.

- On March 1, 2007, the day before Anna's funeral, there is a charge of 10 hours for "preparation for and attendance in Bahamas re services and var. meetings re same." On the day of Anna's funeral, there is another 10 hour charge with the exact same language. Ironically, TMZ knows Birkhead asked Opri not to even attend the funeral, but she did anyway. On March 3, Opri charged yet another 10 hours for travel from Nassau back to L.A.

- On February 24, 2007, while Opri and Birkhead stayed at a private residence in Ft. Lauderdale during the Florida hearing, Opri billed $600 for Seafood World. We're told she brought four trays of lobster to the house. The bill says, "Dinner gift/Ft. Lauderdale house stay." But it was no gift to Larry. That same day, she billed $211 for items at Publix grocery store.

- March 8, 2007, Opri billed $161.65 for an Outback Steakhouse dinner. And get this -- the bill was for $111.65. Opri left a $50 tip and billed Birkhead, who wasn't even there!

- Opri billed Birkhead $4,265 for Cingular roaming service while she was in the Bahamas.

- Opri billed Birkhead 18 times for Diva Limos that took them to and from the Ft. Lauderdale courthouse to the private residence.

- October 22, 2006, Opri billed Birkhead $1,116.16 for a dinner at Graycliff, a restaurant in Nassau. The note next to the charge is "Alexiou atty mtg." Alexiou is Birkhead's lawyer in the Bahamas. Birkhead was not present.

- The next day, October 23, Opri billed $2,467.75 at Graycliff restaurant for another meal. The charge again was for "Alexiou atty mtg." Again, Birkhead was not present.

- Also on October 23, Birkhead was billed $25.75. The item -- "laundry service Zawacki." Zawacki is Opri's husband, who was present on the trip. Ouch!

In all, the packet of bills Birkhead received today totaled 112 pages. Opri offered Birkhead a bargain: Instead of the $620,492.84 bill, she offered him a discount at $511,365.09, but only if he accepts immediately. Opri wrote, "I'm still willing to accept the discounted billing at this time, but only without further discussion."

TMZ contacted James Levesque, Opri's publicist with Luck Media & Marketing. He said, "Debra Opri always gets paid. That's what she does for a living." Beyond that, he wouldn't comment on the bill. Opri could not be immediately reached for comment.

UPDATE: TMZ has just obtained a statement from David Owen, Opri's lawyer. He said, "We're pretty confident that her bills are fair and reasonable and he has not paid them. She is entitled to be paid and he stiffed her and her bills are fair and reasonable."[source]

During his recent trip to Japan, the singer had been battling a severe flu, which he apparently caught from his two young children Paris and Prince, his publicist Raymone Bain confirmed. Bain said Jackson and his family returned to the U.S. because they had all fallen ill. Jackson was still sick, she said.

In what could possibly be one of the worst ideas ever for a TV show, “The Son’s of Hollywood” is a reality show following around Sean Stewart (son of rocker Rod), Randy Spelling (son of TV producing legend Aaron and brother of 90210 star Tori) and David Weintraub, who is not the son of producer Jerry Weintraub.

The latest AP blip says city prosecutors will revoke Paris's probation which could lead to a jail term.
"We're confident we have sufficient evidence to prove that her license was suspended and that she had knowledge of that suspension," said Nick Velasquez, a spokesman for the city attorney's office. He declined to elaborate on the evidence, citing an ongoing investigation.
